Why creating a buyer persona is so important for your brand

Having a buyer persona for your brand can help you to target your ideal customer, improve your marketing strategy and boost your sales.

It’s no secret that brands need a deep understanding of their customer base to build a successful business. A great way to get to know your customers is to create a buyer persona.

Buyer personas are a fantastic tool to help you target your ideal customer and, in turn, increase sales. Think of them like your brand’s imaginary friend! Instead of creating content and products for a nameless, faceless user base, your buyer persona will ensure that everything your brand does is targeted at your ideal customer. The persona will also serve as a constant reminder to put your customer’s needs above your own.

What is a buyer persona?

A buyer persona is a profile of your ideal customer that you create using audience research and customer data. Although this persona is not a real person (think imaginary friend!), it is based on real insights that come from your actual or desired audience.

Your buyer persona will have a name, demographic details, interests, and behavioral traits. Through creating the persona, you’ll get to know your customer’s goals, challenges, buying patterns and how they make purchase decisions.

You need to think and speak about this persona as if he/she/it were real. This will allow you to tailor everything your business does to your ideal customer, from product development to marketing activities.

Bear in mind that if different types of people buy your products for different reasons, you may need to create more than one persona.

Why does your brand need a buyer persona?

Keep you focused on your target audience

Buyer personas ensure that you stay focused on your customer’s wants and needs. You should be thinking about your persona whenever you are creating new products, planning marketing campaigns, and deciding where to sell your products.

Save time and money

It is not a good idea to begin creating a new product before you know who you’ll be selling it to. If you start this process before getting to know your customer base, you’ll likely end up going back at a later date to make costly and time-consuming changes. This can be avoided if you take the time to create a buyer persona.

Shape your brand’s messaging

Deciding your brand’s messaging and voice is an essential part of your marketing activities. If you discover your audience’s needs and pain points, you can create messages that really resonate with them. This will help you build trust and establish a strong connection with your customer base. This way you can also attract and retain more of the right type of customers.
